Plum Q&A with Abby Paulson

Q:  What are three adjectives that you use to describe yourself?

A: Outspoken, passionate, hard-working.

Q: What is your favorite color and why?

A: My favorite color is blue, specifically teal blue or sea foam green because I love the ocean and the beach.

Q: How did you become a “Swifty"?

A: When I was little, we would lose the radio for a bit on the way up to my cabin, so we had to listen to CDs. The only ones we ever had in the car were Taylor Swift, so it became a sort of tradition. Even now, with Spotify and music streaming apps, we still play T-Swift on the way up north.

Q: If you could be an animal - what would you be and why?

A: I would be a dolphin. They are intelligent animals, and they seem so peaceful out there just jumping waves.

Q: What is your favorite part of being a college student?

A: I love always meeting new people and the flexibility of scheduling classes. There’s so much variety in the courses you can take.

Q: How did you discover your love for cooking?

A: I used to bake every time I went to stay with my grandparents. They also had a garden, and I loved getting vegetables from that and “helping” cook (although I’m sure I didn’t do much). As I got a little older, I wanted to open a bakery and enjoyed creating things in the kitchen. I even did my 9th-grade science project on how different binding agents affected the density of a cupcake. Eventually, this led to my love for cooking in general.

Q: What's your favorite treat or retreat? Ex: candy, ice cream, ice lattes, or vacation spots?

A: I have a sweet tooth. I love a good piece of dark chocolate or some ice cream for my favorite treat. My favorite retreat would be my cabin; it’s an escape from the real world, a bit of peace and quiet. I also love the Outer Banks!

Q: Do you have an angel number? If yes, what is it? If not, another lucky number?

A: I do not. I’m a pretty superstitious person, so you would think I would. I’m going to go with 13, for Taylor Swift.

Q: Senior year is ahead, what are your goals?

A: I want to enjoy my last year of gymnastics. This sport has been a part of my life for almost 20 years, and I want to take advantage of all the opportunities thrown at me this year.

Q: When you hear “Summer Sol,” what summertime memory comes to mind?

A: "Summer Sol" reminds me of the sunny days I’ve spent out on the boat, spending time with my family, listening to Taylor Swift, and soaking in the sun.

Questions From #PlumGirls

Q: What’s your favorite movie, TV show, and book?

A: Friends is the only show I’ve ever finished all the way through, and I pretty much exclusively watch that. My favorite movie is either The Proposal or Tangled. For books, I love the Little House on the Prairie series; they hold a special place in my heart.

Q: What is your go-to coffee order?

A: I always order a cold brew with coconut milk and light ice. However, if I’m studying and want to spice it up, I’ll get a London Fog tea with coconut milk.

Q: What’s your favorite food and go-to meal?

A: My favorite food is anything that is coffee flavored (coffee, ice cream, coffee cake, etc.) or smoothie bowls. My go-to meal to cook is typically some form of chicken and veggies, or shrimp and veggie lemon pasta.

Q: What’s a highlight from your college career so far?

A: A highlight for me was making the final four in 2021. We ended on bars, which had been our weakest event most of the season, after struggling on beam, typically our strongest. It looked like we weren’t going to qualify, so we all gave everything we had to our potential last routine of the season and then had to wait for floor and beam to finish up. When we qualified, we were all filled with so many emotions, and it was one of my favorite memories with my team.

Q: What’s your favorite Plum Practicewear leotard?

A: There are too many cute ones to pick from! But, from the summer collection, my favorite is the “Just Beachy” leo. I love the color and the style! My all-time favorite Plum leo is this one I wore at least once a week back in club gymnastics. I don’t remember its name because I got it eight years ago, but it was a flip side with black on the front and yellow and gray polka dots on the back.
